Restricting a Topics Module Created in MEd

You can restrict your Topic Notes module using Microsoft Access.  Click here to open instructions on how to unrestrict your Topic Notes module after restricting it using these instructions.

1. Create your Topic Notes module using MEd (but you already knew to do this).

2. Rename your .top file to .mdb so you can easily open your file using Microsoft Access.

3. Open your .mdb file exclusively.  Depending on your version of Access, how to do this can vary.  Here is out it works with Microsoft Access version 2003 (it should be similar for other versions as well):

a. Open Microsoft Access.
b. Click File, Open.
c. Navigate to your file and click on it once (don't double-click).
d. Click the small drop-down arrow to the right of the Open button.
e. Click "Open Exclusive"

4.  Assign a password to your file.

a. Cick Tools, Security, Set Database Password.
b. Enter a password for your module.  Re-enter to verify.

5. Close Access.

6. Rename the file back to .top.

For instructions on how to unrestrict (unlock) your file, click here.
